Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Soda Drop Info-orium! You have questions. We have answers. Now, the question is are our questions your questions, which would make our answers your answers. We admit that opening was questionable but hopefully our answers are not.

A dirty soda is a soda with inclusions and other flavor enhancers that is either topped or infused with cream thus giving it the “dirty” look attributed to its name. The name became popular in the early 2010s, but the concept has existed since the early 20th century when it was introduced in shops known as soda fountains.

A dirty soda relies on the perfect combination of finished products like popular sodas, syrups, inclusions and creams to create a drink your taste buds call, “Yum!”. A gourmet soda, traditionally, is a soda brewed or crafted from scratch by perfectly combining, often, natural or lightly refined ingredients like the use of cane sugar over artificial sweeteners. They’re certainly related, but not exactly the same, just like each drink on our Soda Drop menu.

Italian sodas are a close cousin to dirty sodas, and surprising to some, they’re also made in America. And just like cousins, who have different parents but some of the same grandparents, both soda types are made up of a majority of the same ingredients. The main distinction between the two is in the base sodas. A dirty soda uses popular soda brands for its base, then augments them with syrups to perfection. An Italian soda uses plain soda water as its base, then adds syrups to bring sweetness to the drink.

No, they do not contain alcohol. The closest we get is root beer. Even though some people interpret the word “dirty” to mean the inclusion of alcohol, we at Soda Drop define “dirty” as bringing thirst-quenching character to a soda WITHOUT the use of alcohol. We’re all about proving you can have fun with your drinks, without adding alcohol.

[SCIENCE ALERT] At its basic, cream has the tendency to curdle when added to soda due to the way its dairy proteins react to the slightly more acidic nature of sodas. The process is natural and there’s no harm in drinking the combination together. After all, some combinations just work well together like peanut butter and jelly, or avocado and toast. Not to worry, neither of those last two combinations have been added to Soda Drop drinks.

Yes, the glitter used at Soda Drop is made from food-grade materials which are safe for consumption. No need to worry about our glitter, since it’s not the same stuff used at preschool art parties. Believe us when we say, using our glitter for spice, makes everything nice.

Other than just pointing out the obvious difference in the words ‘zero’ and ‘diet,’ these two soda types are distinguished by the sweetener they use. The sweeteners used in diet sodas give them their distinct flavor, whereas ‘zero’ sodas are crafted to taste more like the original sodas on which they are based. Since they’re both low-calorie and sugar-free, which one you prefer is up to you. We preferred ‘zero’ sodas for Soda Drop’s sugar-free options because of the taste profile. We also prefer to keep the end result as sugar-free as possible by using sugar-free syrups. But remember just because they’re sugar-free doesn’t mean they’re taste free. That’s a Soda Drop promise.

The answer all comes down to how rich do you want to be, and we’re not talking about money. Cream is often richer in flavor and creamier in texture (go figure). Cold foam is made from milk and heavy cream creating a lighter, fluffier topping. If you’re ever wondering what’s in your Soda Drop drink, remember it like this: If it looks like it floats, then foam is your boat, if it’s starting to sink then cream’s in your drink.

That, my friend, is a less-than-closely guarded secret not-so-safely concealed at the end of this FAQ page. Since you’re now reading this, here’s your answer. Soda Drop’s premium drinks are made by using Bubbl’r or Red Bull as the soda base. A true level up from your regular sodas.
