You know that feeling you got when an upperclassman asked you on a date in high school. Well, Soda Drop got that same feeling when Midco asked us to help them promote Midco Mobile in Bismarck on June 20. First we thought, “Is this really happening?” Then we thought “Okay, stay calm, be cool!” Which was immediately followed by, “Stop thinking so much and say yes!” Seems our inner voice has a lot to say. So we did. We said yes. And the rest is history. Okay it’s not. We have to share it. I mean we can’t get ‘asked out by an upperclassman’ and not want to share the details.
We Got Goals
So what does this mean for Soda Drop? How can we help? The Midco team outlined four clear goals for us.
To the Flavor Lab (aka our test kitchen)
Now that we have goals, it’s off to make promotional dreams come true. Our first step, as with any drink, is to decide the flavor profile. This helps us determine which base soda, lemonade or energy drink to use. We always want to heighten the flavors in the final drink. This makes determining the proper flavor profile a pivotal step.
The next step involves presentation. How do we want the drink to look? Since color is a big focus to promote Midco Mobile we went with a layered effect. We showcased Midco Mobile’s two distinct colors, one stacked on the other in a layered drink. We also wanted to ensure when the colors were mixed they immediately created a picture-worthy dirty soda. So, along with the color mixture, we incorporated a little edible glitter to really make the final drink sparkle. This whole process took us back to high school art class. “Hey teacher, what happens when you mix blue and yellow?” “Well, you get green.” “And what happens when you mix all the colors.” “You get to start over.” Yes, not all colors were meant to be mixed, but when done right, it’s truly a rewarding experience.
A Rewarding Experience
That’s exactly what this experience was and is for us at Soda Drop. It’s a rewarding experience. A fantastic opportunity to showcase our drink artistry. To really put our lead flavorologist, and business owner, Kim to the test. Kim said of the experience, “Midco asked me to do the two things that I love most about being at Soda Drop. Be creative and make people happy.”
The Takeaways
So here we are, nearly at event day. What should the community know about Soda Drop’s collaboration with Midco.
Midco will hold their announcement party in the Kirkwood Mall parking lot on Saturday, June 20 from noon to 2 p.m. The party will feature the Midco Mobile Soda Drop drink created specifically for this event. Attending guests will receive a Soda Drop To-Go Kit complete with instructions on how each guest can build the drink themselves. Just add ice. Ice will be provided by the Midco team at the event. That said, supplies are limited so be sure to show up early. Additionally, for the curious, the Soda Drop trailer will not be at the event as Soda Drop’s To-Go Kits are already pre-packaged and ready to enjoy whenever you like.
We could but it will be more fun for the mystery to be revealed during the Midco Mobile promotional event. I can say that it will taste as good as it looks!
Absolutely. Soda Drop prides itself on collaborating with businesses to create unique experiences. If you have a great idea, reach out so we can find a way to make it a reality.
We worked on this collaboration with Midco across two states, but the process went smoothly. Great communication leads to great results. Our only wish is we would have loved to see the Midco team’s reaction to our initial pitch in person. Good news is the Midco team will get to see all their fans’ reactions to the promotional drink in-person during the kickoff event.
As a small business, and self-proclaimed underclassmen in this scenario, we appreciated the opportunity to showcase what we can do when given the chance. Embracing opportunities leads to truly special results.
Now that you know more about it, check out the Midco Mobile kickoff promotion on June 20 in the east Kirkwood Mall parking lot. Then you too will get to experience what happens when one takes the opportunity to make an impression with an ‘upperclassman.’
